Welcoming words of the head of the Federal Agency for Tourism

On behalf of the Federal Agency for Tourism I welcome the guest and participants of the 3rd International Tourist Forum in Arkhangelsk, Tourism Development towards the Modern Environment.

The Arkhangelsk Region is one of the largest regions in the North-West of Russia. It has great potential for developing various spheres of tourism: from sightseeing tours to unique industrial tourism and Arctic voyages. Such potential is in especially high demand in modern economic circumstances.

The travel industry can drive the socio-economic growth of engaged territories; it will open the new niches for small and medium-sized business, and enable successful import substitution. This is confirmed by a growing demand for domestic tourism as well as rising interest of foreign tourists.

Thus we can see that more attention should be paid to the travel industry by all levels of government authorities, business community and non-government organisations in order to find the most effective way of using the regions competitive advantages in service of tourism. Diversifying the tourism services and improving their quality, developing complex tourist routes, organizing and promoting inter-regional tourist products will all make possible a sustained interest in the Region.

I am confident that the upcoming 3rd International Tourist Forum in Arkhangelsk will become a productive venue for discussing the current issues and searching for practical solutions to the key challenges of today. It will broaden the scope of inter-regional and international cooperation in the travel industry.

I wish all the participants fruitful work and professional achievements!

Head of the Federal Agency for Tourism
